From Brock Berrigan’s Way of Life, I created a mashup album using some of the tracks. Rather than following the original soundtrack, I restructured the songs into a new sequence-one that felt personal to me-one that was also crafted and had to maintain a smooth, cohesive flow. The result is a continuous listening experience that feels fresh yet still honors the spirit of the original album.
I chose Berrigan’s music because it resonates with me on multiple levels. His sounds have become a go-to companion during long work sessions, soundtracks to some of my video productions, or even moments when I need to zone in or zone out. There is something about the way his beats unfold-layered, textured, and often unpredictable. That helps me to find focus or wind down into a relaxed, almost meditative state. Some tracks sharpen my thinking, while others let my mind drift, making time feel like it’s moving in the background.
What draws me most to Berrigan’s work is his experimental edge. He has mastered weaving together eclectic audio clips-snippets of dialogue, voice recordings, ambient sounds, and unexpected samples-blending them seamlessly to his musical style. It is this very creative freedom and playfulness that inspired me to take a similar approach in my mashup. I used a variety of cuts and fades to stich the tracks together in a way that feels intentional.
This project was a unique technical exercise. It helped me along a personal exploration of producing. Reimaging Berrigan’s Way of Life showed me how powerful music can be when it is allowed to change, evolve, and take on new forms from someone else’s perspective.
