Disney Lyric Mashup

For my Disney lyric mashup, I curated a selection of ten songs that explore themes of love, belonging, and care. I chose five emotionally resonant tracks from Disney soundtracks – “Remember Me (Duo)” from Coco, “Beauty and The Beast” from Beauty and The Beast, “Part of Your World (Reprise II)” from The Little Mermaid, “I See The Light” from Tangled, and “If I Never Knew You” from Pocahontas. I pared these with five of my personal favorites: “Nobody Else But You” from A Goofy Movie, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King, “A Whole New World” from Aladdin, “Know Who You Are” from Moana, and “My Name is James” from James and The Giant Peach.

Using GarageBand, I edited and blended these tracks into a cohesive mixtape. I carefully cut, rearranged, and layered the audio, balancing volume levels and applying fades to create smooth transitions between songs. Each transition lasts less than 5 seconds, allowing the songs to flow into one another while maintaining their emotional impact.

This mashup reflects a slice of my musical taste-sometimes calm and atmospheric, sometimes a bit more energetic. I am drawn to music that evokes emotion, sparks memories, or grounds you in the present moment. I personally believe that Disney best excels at storytelling when weaving music throughout the story without turning their films into a full-blown musical.

That is when you get the memorable films, scenes, and songs that come with it. It all blends together for the viewers, and we get to take that away from the films-not being bombarded with song choices after every action sequence or moment of reflection. I really admire the Disney classics and the modern Disney movies that have taken pages from the great classics.

The editing process reminded me of my work in video production-refining transitions, shaping flow, and building cohesion. Unlike my previous project, The City, which layered sounds to create an immersive one-minute soundscape, this mashup focuses on lyrical storytelling through brief, overlapping segments. I loved the challenge of shaping something new from familiar pieces. The one thing that still haunts me from this track is the uneasiness from “If I Never Knew You.” Every time it plays, it feels somewhat out of place. It fits my overall tone and theme of the lyrical mashup, however, the strong enunciation of words and music can make it feel out of place. If I were to go back and change the order, I would place “I See The Light” right after it. This could help any potential staggering from song-to-song.

This is a Audio Assignment. This assignment was based upon Disney Lyric Mashup. (4 Stars)
