The sun hung high over the park, casting the perfect golden glow across the field. Children running around the playground, pickle-ball tournaments flooding the courts, birthday parties swarming the grounds, and the smell of barbecue filling the fresh air.
My partner and I just wrapped up our 4th straight win, so we decided to step to the side and let the rest of the group battle it out in the loser’s bracket. Their matches would determine who would go to face-off against us in a winner’s final. That’s when I noticed my dad stepping up to the line for his turn.
He stood at the edge of the board, cool, calm, and collected, his sunglasses hiding any hint of nerves. His opponent stood behind him, eyes locked on to the bag that was airborne, hoping the bag missed the board. My dad knew his bag was going to be the X-factor. The game was tight and nearing the end. Every point mattered.
I raised my camera just as my dad leaned into his throw.

His stance was low, like a seasoned veteran. With a smooth and swift motion, he released the bag into the air. His arm followed through and swung back, frozen in that moment of focus and form. The intensity on his face was subtle but unmistakable-he was in that mode.
I captured the shot as he watched the bag sail in the air towards the hole, the tension of the game along with it. It wasn’t just a game anymore; it was a memory in the making. And I was lucky enough to freeze it in time.
